Field Trip

We are excited about our second semester field trip to the Tallahassee Junior Museum! Our trip will be Wednesday, April 2^nd.  We will arrive at the Museum around 10 am and leave at 1 pm. We will have lunch and recess on site.

First grade will split into two groups. One group will begin exploring Florida’s natural habitat and the animals that we can find throughout Florida. Our second group will begin exploring and discussing schools, stores, and Florida living from long ago. After lunch the groups will switch activities and continue to explore!

Please remember, like all field trips, to send a bag lunch full of healthy options. Make sure everything is disposable because students will not be able to bring anything back to school.

This field trip is exciting for us all because it’s interactive at every turn and allows for amazing discussions on site and back at school.

We look forward to another fun-filled, successful field trip full of learning and inquiry.

Save the Date

 It’s time for our annual Rainforest Show! Each year, our first grade children put together and practice parts for a performance on The Rainforest. This play is an additional, exciting way to study The Rainforest. Our students learn songs and poems about different animals found in the rainforest, as well as practice for speaking parts in the show. It takes a lot of work and dedication of both teachers and students, but through it all, the students are so proud of their production!

Each student has been asked by Mrs. Mason to bring in a pair of sunglasses for the “Recycle Rap”. Please send in the sunglasses no later than Monday the 10^th.

Their performance is on Thursday, March 13^th at 7:00 pm in our cafeteria. Students need to report to their classroom promptly at 6:30. Students will wear jeans and a plain shirt, either yellow or green. We are looking forward to seeing each one of you there, so that we can all share in our children’s success!

100th Day Of School

Thursday is the 100th day of school. Please remember to send students with their individual items to count. We will be participating in fun 100th day math activities!

Homework Help

Our students are working hard on how to understand the concept of ones and tens. If your child requires additional help with homework please check out http://www.hmhco.com/GoMathAcademy.
on the left hand side there is a search bar that says keywords. You can always type whatever topic we are learning in this book. For this chapter it would be good to search for Understand Tens and Ones or Make Tens and Ones. Please contact me if you need additional resources fro your child and be on the look out fro additional resources and videos in my flipped learning section. 

Happy New Year!

I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year! We are half way to second grade...Can you believe it! January will bring new adventures in learning. Students will continue to be challenged and motivated to be successful. Please encourage your child to read each and every day.

Early Release Days

As you all know December 18^th, 19^th, and 20^th are all early release days.  School will be dismissed at 12:20.  Please make sure you have made the proper arrangements for your child to go home these days.

Since these days are half days, we have different activities scheduled.  In addition to these activities, our class will explore Christmas, Kwanzaa, and the Winter Solstice. The activity scheduled is as follows:

December 18^th

Read-a-thon & Winter Solstice activities

We will have a read-a-thon on this day.  Your child may bring in a few of their favorite books, as well as a pillow, stuffed animal and a blanket to read on. Snuggle up with your favorite book and enjoy!

December 19^th

Game Day & Kwanzaa activities

On this day, students may bring in their favorite games to play.  Please restrict games to board/card games only.  No expensive electronic games will be allowed.  We do not want these items to be lost or stolen.

December 20^th

Polar Express movie & Christmas activities

The Polar Express has become a favorite holiday tradition for millions of readers.  We will ring in the season by watching The Polar Express. Please allow your child to wear pajamas to school to enjoy this event!  Children must wear sneakers to school but they may bring slippers to wear in the classroom. Please send in hot chocolate packets and or cookies for the class to share on this special day.

Math Homework Help

At the top of each math homework, underneath the chapter and lesson it has a title of the concept we are working on. For example tonights homework has Algebra- Ways to make numbers to 20. When you go to the site you will look on the left hand side and choose the grade 1. Then look underneath that drop down menu and choose the concept from the drop down list that matches the concept titled on the homework.
