Spelling Words
Students will have a weekly quiz on Sight Words and Spelling Words. Weekly quizzes are on Friday. The Sight Word quiz is administered through a quick one-on-one oral reading exercise. The Spelling quiz is a traditional teacher call-student write assessment. Students have a monthly list of Spelling and Sight words. These lists will be in homework folders and posted online.
Grading
The spelling quiz will count toward your child's reading grade.
Correct letter formation will be a part of the spelling word assessment.
High Frequency Words are words that appear often in text. Students should know how to read these words by sight. The attachment below is a list of first grade high frequency words.
